Sometime in the late 1920s, the "Roseau Stone" was unearthed in a garden in Roseau, Minnesota. Due to the unusual carvings on the stone, several residents believed it to be evidence of Viking exploration in North America prior to the voyages of Columbus. The stone came into the possession of Mike Holm, a resident of Roseau, and Minnesota Secretary of State (1920-1952).
